I was in Laos for 6 days from November 15th to November 20th 2019. It was an extended trip from three days festivities in Yi Peng Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai. I went to Laos from Chiang Mai with Airasia, and since Airasia does not have direct flight to Vientiane, I had to make a stopover at Don Mueang Airport Thailand for 4 hours.
My itinerary was as follow:
Day 1: Explore beautiful city of Vientiane
Day 2: Going to Vang Vieng by Minivan & Explore Vang Vieng
Day 3: Explore Vang Vieng and going to Luang Prabang by Minivan
Day 4: Explore Luang Prabang
Day 5: Explore Luang Prabang and going back to Vientiane by Lao Skyway
Day 6: Explore Vientiane

The Booking Process
In this post, I will share you my experience flying with Lao Skyway from Luang Prabang (LPQ) to Vientiane (VIE). I booked the ticket online via its official website for 499,000 LAK per person one way (USD 55 or 783,000 IDR). The 499,000 LAK price is the second best price, while the best price or economy price was at 399,000 LAK. But, it was sold out when we made our booking. Included in the price are 20 kg checked baggage and 6 kg of cabin baggage.
There’s only one flight from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, which is at 12:00 PM and from Luang Prabang to Vientiane at 13:15 PM.
The Flight Day
The counter at Luang Prabang airport was easy to spot and they were quick to serve the queuing passengers. The Boarding pass was just a printed small paper with required information only such as date, seating, departure time and boarding time.

Inside the airplane
Lao Skyway uses Xian MA60 (新舟60, Xīnzhōu liùshí, “Modern Ark 60”), a turboprop-powered airliner produced by China’s Xi’an Aircraft Industrial Corporation under the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).
The seating arrangement with just enough space and wide legroom. Snack was given, along with mineral water. We departed on time and it was rather an uneventful and smooth journey, although the sound of the machine a bit loud. But, overall I was happy with the experience flying skyway.
